Well hello, June! It’s the month of warmer days, longer evenings spent outdoors, and a never-ending list of school events as kids wrap up their year. This is also the time that family-fun activities ramp up around Metro Vancouver! We’ve picked a few of our must-see events and activities for this month, but it is only a mere sampling of what is happening. Welcoming the Sun
Join the Gulf of Georgia Cannery for an afternoon of FREE family programming on June 15th. Welcoming the Sun celebrates Indigenous culture and the dynamic fishing history of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. Visitors will enjoy live drumming and dance performances, Indigenous music, Coast Salish storytelling, and many authentic Indigenous vendors selling their goods. For more information, click here.

Outdoor Summer Festivals
Summertime is the perfect season for community gatherings and outdoor festivals, and fortunately, there are plenty in Metro Vancouver between June and August! Whether they are single-day or spread out over a week or weekend, all of the festivals below have something in common: good food, great entertainment, and fun for the whole family! Splash Pads and Spray Parks
Don’t let the hot weather keep you indoors- head to one of the incredible splash pads and spray parks around Metro Vancouver! This list of splash pads and spray parks has everything from gurgling bubbles of water ideal for tiny tots, to elaborate spouts of water shooting from every angle. For more information, click here.
Summer Farmers Markets
Support local producers, vendors, and artisans, and get tasty food & wonderful treats to bring home. While you may have your favourite market, consider checking out a different one on occasion. Not all the vendors are the same, and therefore new and wonderful treats will be found. For more information, click here.
FREE Swimming in Surrey (ongoing until the end of the summer) – the City of Surrey has 8 outdoor pools and they offer FREE swimming all summer long. A few of the pools opened in mid-May, and the rest of them open throughout the month of June.
Pitt Meadows Day (June 1) – This free family event is a community tradition and includes a pancake breakfast, a parade, an artisan market, entertainment, food trucks, a family-friendly beverage garden, children & youth activities and much more!
Hats Off Day (June 1) – the merchants in Burnaby Heights are taking their Hats Off for their community & customers. The day is packed full of family-friendly activities.
Doors Open Richmond (June 8 & 9) – The annual Doors Open Richmond returns this spring as a free, in-person and online event from June 8-9, 2024. Doors Open celebrates cultural diversity and raises civic awareness by offering a look inside places of worship, cultural and civic centres, local businesses, museums and heritage sites.
ScotFest BC (June 14 & 15): Embrace the bagpipes, watch the kilts fly during the jigs and reels, be awed by the stone putt and caber toss. Wander through the vendor stalls and cheer on the sheepdog competition. The BC Highland Games, now referred to as ScotFest, is a fantastically fun family-friendly event.
BC Family Fishing Weekend (June 14-18) – The BC Family Fishing Weekend is back! During the Annual BC’s Family Fishing Weekend, June 16-18, 2023 (which is also Father’s Day weekend) Canadians can fish LICENCE FREE on both salt and fresh water (certain rules and regulations do apply).
Vancouver International Jazz Festival (June 21-30): The Vancouver International Jazz Festival kicks off with over 140 free and ticketed performances of diverse programming over 10 days. Opening weekend includes free Downtown Jazz outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Festival culminates on Canada Day weekend with shows across Granville Island.
Greek Day (June 23) – Greek Day on Broadway is back. A five-block stretch on West Broadway is closed off to traffic for a world of delicious Greek food and drink, market vendors, entertainment and live music offering a laid-back, yet lively Greek atmosphere. Come hungry as the food is out of this world!
