Join a band of rag-tag pickpockets as they navigate the mean streets of Victorian London in search of the true love of a family with Lionel Bartel’s award-winning musical, Oliver! at Gateway Theatre. From an unprivileged life to one of hope and love, Oliver will warm the hearts of audiences of all ages.

This memorable musical springs to Gateway Theatre’s MainStage featuring classic characters, stunning sets, Victorian costumes, and iconic musical numbers. Young Oliver Twist is an orphan in search of love and a family, but he finds himself in a series of unfortunate circumstances. Forced to work in a dirty workhouse, Oliver leaves to apprentice with an undertaker. When that doesn’t work out, he escapes and finds acceptance and a makeshift family with a band of roving pickpockets under the guidance of the untrustworthy Fagin who uses the young group to feed his own greed. Oliver’s connection to his fellow groupmates feeds his need for connection and family until he is mistakenly apprehended for a crime he did not commit.

With compassion and empathy, Oliver demonstrates the power of persistence and the hope of finding true love and family in this classic tale. Taken in by the benevolent Mr. Brownlow, Oliver finally feels like he has found the acceptance he so desperately desires and that he can leave his pickpocketing days behind. Will this new family be forever? Or will seedy characters from his past reemerge to spoil his new fortune?
