Updated: April 14, 2023: Due to logistical issues and impossible time constraints, the Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography exhibition will not be able to make it to Vancouver this May as originally planned. Anyone who has purchased tickets to the exhibition can be refunded at the point of purchase or through TicketLeader at ticketleader.ca.

Experience the life of one of the most vibrant and influential female artists of the twentieth century with Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography.  Kahlo’s life was as dynamic as her artwork, and this Western Canadian Premiere will mesmerize audiences with a collection of historical photographs, original films, collector’s items, artistic installations, digital environments, and music that bring her biography to life.

Frida Kahlo, born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon, was a unique and engaging figure who remains well-known for her use of bold colours and her representation of Mexican and Indigenous culture through her artwork. Kahlo is celebrated as a feminist painter for her portrayal of women and her artwork is synonymous with self-portraits, reflecting her life story through the experiences she painted.

Visitors to the Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography exhibit will explore seven distinct spaces highlighting different periods of time in her life and artwork. In addition to 360-degree projections of photographs, videos, and artwork from Kahlo’s life, visitors will have a chance to step into an exciting VR experience, bringing Kahlo’s life into focus even more intensely. Children and adults will love the colourful wall projections, the lively and thematic music throughout each of the seven spaces, and the opportunity to create their own colourful portraits and images of Kahlo and her artwork at a colouring station. It is an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.

Beatriz Alvarado, CCO and Head of Global Trends for the Frida Kahlo Corporation, states that the aim of the exhibit is to “create a space that portrays Frida Kahlo in an authentic, genuine, and comprehensive manner, incorporating diverse sources of information.” Produced in conjunction with Montreal-based Tandem Productions, Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography received immense success while on tour in Spain, across Europe, and the US before its Canadian debut in Montreal.  Now, Vancouver audiences have the chance to see the storied life and artistry of one of the most influential artists of her time come to life in a fully immersive fashion.

Don’t miss your chance to purchase advance tickets on Tuesday, April 4th. Ticket prices start at $40 with discounts available for students, children and families. Additional add-ons, such as virtual reality and VIP experiences are also available.
