A whole day dedicated to celebrating our families? We’ll take it! Family Day is celebrated on February 17th this year, but family-friendly activities are happening all weekend long. Enjoy the holiday, grab the kids, and go make memories as a family there are oodles of events to pick from over the February 14th-17th weekend. More events will be added daily to our Family Day Events category, so be sure to check back!

Gateway Theatre’s “Otosan” | February 17 & 19-22
If you’re looking for a meaningful and heartfelt all-ages show to see with your family this February, don’t miss Gateway Theatre’s production of Otosan. With a special showing on Family Day (February 17th), audiences can also catch this powerful story about family, connection, and culture running from February 19-22.
VIFF Family Day Film | February 17
This Family Day, celebrate the launch of the brand new VIFF Kids Club with a matinee of the popular 1996 film James and the Giant Peach. This adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved book follows the adventures of James, an orphaned boy who is forced to live with his cruel aunts. Special pre-show activities include making a bug antennae headband and purchasing film-inspired concession snacks!
Family Day at Steveston Tram| February 14-17
Admission is FREE at Steveston Tram this weekend. Explore the interactive displays, including a light-up map that traces the routes of the historic Interurban tram.
Family Day in Surrey | February 17-19
The City of Surrey has put together a list of Family Day events you can enjoy with those in your immediate family. Outdoor activities, indoor sports, virtual, planned and explore-on-your-own… there’s something for everyone.
Family Day in Richmond |February 14-17
The City of Richmond is celebrating Family Day with a whole weekend of FREE activities, such as bouncy castles, arts and crafts, giant board games, snacks and a great show! Advanced registration is required online.
Family Day at Grouse Mountain | February 15-17
Grouse Mountain is the place to be this Family Day! Children under 12 receive FREE Mountain Admission and Lift Tickets all weekend long (Feb. 15-17), plus there is a special wildlife station, scavenger hunt, crafts, family-friendly movies, snowshoeing, skating and more for all ages to enjoy. Don’t miss the special *fireworks* display happening February 16th at 7pm.
Robson Ice Rink| Until Feb. 29
Grab your family for a nice outdoor skate at one of Vancouver’s most popular skating rinks.
Black History Month Family Celebration
Celebrate the dynamic and varied cultures of the African diaspora in Coquitlam. Come dance, craft, visit with neighbours, and enjoy amazing foods together in community. Listen to bands representing a variety of African musical traditions and styles, visit booths from community partners, enjoy African-inspired treats, and attend a storytelling session.
Family Day Fun
Celebrate Family Day with a morning out! At this free, drop-in event, families will enjoy arts and crafts, giant board games, snacks, a show, and inflatables.
Frog Belly Rat Bone
Don’t miss a FREE performance of the popular Axis Theatre production- Frog Belly Rat Bone! This 40 minute show is best suited for ages 3-10 years old, and tells the story of two garbage collectors as they recall a special boy who finds treasure in his dreary town.
Kids Life Family Day
Head to the Pipe Shop for a fun-filled Kids Life Family Day on Saturday, February 15th! This family-focused event features engaging workshops, interactive shows, kids-friendly vendors, and entertainment for all ages
500 Words
This Family Day weekend Green Thumb Theatre, in partnership with Collingwood Neighbourhood House, is thrilled to present a FREE performance of the play 500 Words by Jamie Norris! There are no advance ticket reservations, but there is plenty of space.
BIG BANG Festival
This joyful music festival promises a vibrant journey through colourful experiences: mini-concerts, interactive fun, surprise performances, and more! Children don’t just have to sit still and listen, but are swept up in the magic and excitement of music. Kids Take Over UBC!
The annual Kids Take Over UBC! returns on February 16th Kids Take Over UBC! is an open-door arts and culture festival for UBC families and the wider audience in Metro Vancouver to enjoy UBC’s world-class assets and public spaces together, while interacting with artists, musicians, dancers and more.
Richmond Children’s Arts Festival
This Family Day, the Richmond Children’s Arts Festival will spark creativity with FREE kid-friendly events & programs at the Richmond Cultural Centre. The festival will include an exciting line-up of writing, music, dance and more for families to enjoy.
Family Day at the Canadian Museum of Flight
Have your photo taken inside a real Canadian Snowbird jet. The Family Day activities include crafts, museum tours, and much more. Entrance is FREE but pre-registration is required.

Fort Langley National Historic Site
Head to Fort Langley National Historic Site this Family Day to learn the wonders of BC’s diversity. Meet special guests from OWL, learn about the life and habitat of Beavers, enjoy a scavenger hunt and gold panning, and learn about how First Nations peoples used animals for clothing, tools and more.
Family Day at MOV
Head to the Museum of Vancouver this Family Day with entrance by donation. Enjoy a lighthearted, family friendly play by 3 Crows Productions about how Raven stole the Sun.

Who doesn’t love a campfire? Visit Belcarra Regional Park or Pacific Spirit Regional Park for storytelling and fun activities. Don’t forget to bring your own marshmallows to roast!
Family Day at the Vancouver Art Gallery
Spend Family Day at the iconic Vancouver Art Gallery! Children and youth 18 and under are FREE. Family activities include storytelling, time traveling, geometric forests, hands-on activities, guided tours, and art-making all inspired by the works of Emily Carr, Shelley Niro ,and Firelei Baez.
Family Day at the Vancouver Maritime Museum
This Family Day, learn about the incredible maritime history in Vancouver. In addition to FREE admission all day long, there will be storytime, activities, and a Meet & Greet with the Coast Guards! Pre-book entry times.
