Looking for a new and fun way to exhaust your kids? Interested in a unique and memorable birthday party? Head to Funtopia in Surrey!
The facility, located just off King George Hwy, offers fun for all ages. Without a doubt the climbing room is an experience no child will soon forget. Time in the climbing room is purchased in time increments (1 hour, 1.5 hours & 2 hours). We went with an hour for our first visit, and I honestly think that was the perfect amount of time for my boys (aged 5 & 7 years).
In the climbing room, there are more than 2 dozen climbing walls for the kids to explore. Prior to entering, the kids are put into harnesses and given an overview of the safety rules. Once inside, the kids are free to roar from one climbing wall to the next. Some walls are more challenging than others, making Funtopia accessible to kids of all ages. When we visited there was a little girl who had to be no more than 3 successfully making it up walls. That being said, I suspect she was a bit of a superstar. While the harnesses and pulleys certainly help the kids, they do need to have a certain level of strength and coordination to make the activity successful.
The climbing walls all have different themes. Owls, monsters, tires, glow-in-the-dark, dinosaur, fire hall, winter, cars, beanstalk, and so many more! My boys had a hard time picking their favourite. Definitely the free standing columns were in their top five, as were the tires and the block-stacking (which involved swinging and crashing into blocks which is nothing but fun for kids).
After the kids complete their climbing time, they are welcome to tumble around in the soft-play area. Bouncy castles, a jungle gym and obstacle course, as well as slides drain the last remaining bit of energy out of your kid. The soft-play area is also a great option for younger siblings waiting for the older kids to complete their climbing. Parents are able to purchase just access to the soft-play. However, if you purchase climbing time, unlimited time in the soft-play area is included.
While there are food options available on site, families are allowed to bring in their own snacks and water. And bring lots of water; those kids are sweating at the end of the climbing session.
We happened to visit on a sunny day which meant we had the place pretty much to ourselves. We were told that Funtopia is usually hopping with visitors. A big shout out to the staff members who run around the climbing room, clipping & unclipping the kids from the various climbing walls. They must be exhausted at the end of their shift. I was impressed by how quickly the staff moved around ensuring no kid was waiting and wasting their precious climbing playtime.
As my boys were walking out – before we had made it outside – both of them were begging to return. I see many visits to Funtopia in our near future.
And if you want to maximize your trip to Funtopia, head next door to Sky Zone for an awesome (and incredibly well-priced) trampoline park experience!
