If you think back to your childhood, I bet you can remember the very first film you ever saw in theatres. That’s because there is a certain magic about going to a cinema and seeing a film on the big screen for the very first time. The smell of buttery popcorn, the big picture, big sound, and the shared experience of seeing a movie surrounded by your friends and family. VIFF is a leader in providing quality cinematic experiences for adults and kids, and they know that an exciting first cinematic experience is a core memory for many.
This Family Day, celebrate the launch of the brand new VIFF Kids Club with a matinee of the popular 1996 film James and the Giant Peach. This adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved book follows the adventures of James, an orphaned boy who is forced to live with his cruel aunts. After receiving a bag of magic that turns into an enormous peach, James meets a group of caring insects who show him what it means to be loved and welcomed. As James and his new friends embark on an adventure, he learns the true meaning of friendship, acceptance, and bravery. This stop-motion live-action film displays exquisite cinematic excellence along with a child-friendly message. Produced by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick, the film took three years to make because each animated frame was created one at a time.
In addition to the movie, families will love the pre-show activities like making bug antennae headbands, and purchasing peachy concession stand items for $5. Tickets are just $10 each, making Family Day at VIFF a cozy, affordable opportunity to share a special moment together. Purchase your tickets here.
VIFF’s new Kids Club will feature matinees for an affordable price that include a family-friendly film, special snacks based on the film being shown, and pre-show activities for the whole family to enjoy. If you can’t make it to James and the Giant Peach on Family Day, keep your eyes peeled for the next film to be shown at the VIFF Kids Club.
