Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art re-opens its doors following a $1.8 million, six-month renovation to celebrate its 10th anniversary with an abundant weekend line-up of family friendly events: including storytelling hour, tea and bannock, live performances, and free admission. This first major renovation to the decade-old museum showcases a new educational and social gathering space, and expanded programming capacity. Home Away From Home is the inaugural exhibition of the Bryan and Audrey Williams Gallery — housed in the newly transformed mezzanine — and is on display through Sept. 9, 2018. The exhibition highlights artists from the Carnegie Centre Cultural Sharing program, and is guest-curated by Samantha Nock (Cree Métis) and Nicole Bird (Haida). An interactive commission by Kelsey Sparrow (Musqueam) will be unveiled over the weekend, as will the launch of two artist residencies featuring Allison Burns-Joseph (Squamish) and Samuel McKay (Nisga’a).
