I’m married to a teacher. I was raised by two elementary school principals. My sister is a university professor. There’s a trend in our family, and I broke it. I am not a teacher. I am the wrong personality type (ahem, zero patience). I also believe if I tell you something once that should be enough. I would be an utter disaster in the classroom. But, the schools have closed for the foreseeable future and as much as my children would love 2, 3, 4 months of utter freedom this house needs some structure, and a formal schedule, if we are going to come out the other side of this still liking one another.
So, it’s time to make ourselves familiar with the BC K-12 School Curriculum. The BC Government has a website designed to explain the new curriculum to anyone who is interested.
Each of the key subject areas is identified and you can navigate to the curriculum outcomes for each grade.
Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies
To be clear the BC government website doesn’t tell you HOW to teach the various subjects (pretty sure that’s where the actual training in teaching, and a degree in teaching, kicks in). BUT, the website does give you an idea of what your child should be able to do by the end of their current grade. As we are all floundering around attempting to figure out how we keep our kids entertained, educated, and active for the foreseeable future, I’m turning to every possible resource I can find. (I may have also yarded my parents – the former elementary school principals – out of retirement to teach my kids, via FaceTime, on a daily basis.)
