Pulse Topology, an interactive light and sound art installation by Mexican-Canadian media artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, is on at The Bentway throughout October. The Bentway is a community event space and recreational area under the Gardiner Expressway in the west end of Toronto’s downtown core, connecting the Fort York National Historic Site, Ontario Place and Exhibition Place, and Harbourfront.
In an enclosed storage chamber, the public discovers a striking, industrial part of the city. An array of 3,000 hanging lights uses touch-less biometric technology to react to the pulse of visitors’ heartbeats in real time.
Please note that the installation requires dim lighting and includes pulsating lights so please keep this in mind if you are sensitive to light fluctuations. Furthermore, COVID-19 protocols are in effect to ensure a safe experience, including mandatory face coverings, physical distancing and limited group sizes.
Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can ($5 suggested donation) and pre-registration is required, available here.
