This year, families are invited to enjoy live TD Pop-Up Performances, delicious food and warm chai, free family activities, and a series of workshops where they can tap into their creativity and take home their own masterpiece.
Tap into your Creativity at the Light Up the Dark Workshops!
At the Museum’s Light Up the Dark workshops, families can create beautiful artwork, experimenting with three different materials: clay, paper and metal. Choose your favourite or make them all! Even better, the Museum provides all the required materials, so all you need to bring is your creativity and enthusiasm.
Clay Tile Making Workshop
December 27–29, 1:00-2:00pm
Guided by the Museum Educators at the Aga Khan Museum, kids and parents can experiment with clay! In this interactive workshop, you can create a unique tile and explore the various techniques used to shape, design, and decorate a one-of-a-kind piece to take home. Participants are free to draw inspiration from the many beautiful ceramic pieces in the Museum Collections. This creative session is perfect for both beginners and art enthusiasts, allowing you to experiment with different textures and patterns to fully bring your design to life.
Reflective Tiles: Metal Embossing Workshop
December 27–29, 3:00-4:00pm
In this hands-on workshop, you can explore the exciting art of metal embossing! Also suitable for all skill levels, you can discover the basic techniques as you draw inspiration from unique patterns in the artworks around the Museum Collections. Feel free to experiment with your own designs and then create a beautifully embossed metal tile, which you can take home as a keepsake.
Lantern Making: Patterns and Shadows
December 27–29, 5:00-6:00pm
The Lantern Making workshop is a great opportunity to showcase your inner shine! Here, you can explore the beauty of Islamic art and patterns, and be inspired by the Museum’s Iznik tiles, as well as Anila Quayyum Agha’s installation, A Thousand Silent Moments (Rain Forest) – Green 2024. Using parchment, you can decorate and craft a unique lantern as you examine the various artistic techniques. By the end of the workshop, you can go home with your own beautiful and personalized work of art.

Ages: These workshops are suitable for visitors aged 6 and older. Children aged 6 to 12 must be accompanied by a caregiver to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Please note that both children and caregivers need tickets for each workshop.
