As a start to summer and as a celebration, I took my kiddo on a surprise evening cruise aboard the Prairie Lily – located right here in Saskatoon. School ended on Thursday, and I wanted to do something amazing to celebrate us making it through my son’s first year in school – Pre K during a pandemic. He was really excited when he saw the riverboat. He had been guessing the entire trip to the boat but did not guess it. I’ve always loved our beautiful river so this trip was exciting for both of us.
It was a beautiful night for a boat ride and I had one excited little boy. He could barely wait for us to get on the boat. We chose the Sightseeing Cruise, and we went for the 6:30 time slot. This is the same time as the Dining Cruise, and I was impressed with the way they set it up for everyone. Even with the supper crew, we were still able to switch from the upper deck to the lower deck after they were finished eating (and the tables were sanitized) so we could experience everything.
Right as we were leaving we saw a beaver in the water which is a pretty cool sight in or out of a boat. As we floated down the river, they had announcements to point out different locations and facts along the river bank. It was great. I found out a few new things! My kiddo loved the experience and had a lot of fun pointing out spots he wanted us to visit later. We were able to order some drinks for ourselves for the trip. I had the feature “Prairie Lily” drink and my son chose a delicious apple juice.
The view was beautiful, and we both enjoyed the ride on the upper deck. There was so much to see. My son did have trouble staying in one spot. For the most part, he was able to stay and enjoy everything that surrounded us.
We were moved to the lower deck at the perfect time – my son was getting restless. They moved us one by one, and we were able to relax inside for the final leg of our journey after the boat had turned around. It was a beautiful room, and we were able to get up and take a few more photos. The trip back gave us time to see more spots we hadn’t noticed before. We also enjoyed going under all of the bridges!
The cabin crew and everybody we spoke to was amazing. They took the time to speak to my son and somebody congratulated him on finishing his Pre-K class! He loved talking to them as well. They stopped to ask both of us how our trip was going and to give us some boat riding advice. My kiddo was over the moon about our trip. It was the perfect surprise riverboat cruise for him.
This was truly the perfect mommy/son date and I’m so glad for the great experience. It was such a great start to summer.
