After attending SQUARE by Wide Open Children’s Theatre, my son and  I were inspired to come home and create. We were reminded that imagination and some craft supplies are all you need. What happens when a box isn’t just a box? You can find out when you go to Square by Wide Open Children’s Theatre. My son already loves making forts and having fun with boxes but after watching boxes become puppets, he is even more excited to create. He’s also decided he wants to be a puppeteer when he grows up and he enjoyed meeting Crispi, the Puppeteer and amazing performer. The production was hilarious and of course, had all the kids involved. My son has main-character energy so he loves any play that is interactive.

Performed at Nutrien Wonderhub

We watched the show at Nutrien Wonderhub in the performance theatre downstairs. It’s convenient that SQUARE was performed at Nutrien Wonderhub because they are also hosting Boxtopia – a hands-on, world of wild cardboard creations—where kids can let their imaginations run wild! The show was set in a cozy spot where the kids can sit on the floor, ready to participate and the parents can sit in the chairs and enjoy the show.

Books and colouring

One of my favourite things about a Wide Open Theatre show is the activities they put out to do before the performance. They know kids are impatient when parents get places early so they always have themed-to-the-show pictures to colour or books to read.

The show was hilarious. My son laughed loud and long along with the other members of the audience. Adults and children enjoyed the characters made out of boxes. Kid loved helping (or at times not helping) Crispy as they created boats, trains and more throughout the show. We loved it and my son came home to make himself a puppet made of boxes.
