In September, my son and I discovered our love for Doylefest. We received an invite to the 10th Anniversary of Doylefest and quickly realized how amazing this event is. It’s a weekend festival and they also offer day passes. We went up for the day but have already decided to stay the entire weekend when we return next year. The weather was beautiful, the scenery was lovely and the music was fun.
While there, I was able to learn about Doylefest. It began in 2014 as a birthday party and has gone from a birthday celebration to a fundraiser for Community Arts Mentorship that brings music and art lessons and so much more to remote communities in Saskatchewan. Doylefest features 34 different acts, a children’s area, games and more. There have been many changes over the years as Doylefest has grown including the location. The music festival is held at Eagle Creek Regional Park and has a fully serviced campground.
Our first order of business, after looking around, was to find out how to tie-dye. I have not done it since I was a kid and this was my son’s first experience. If I was honest, I’d say this was the beginning of our love for Doylefest. It was a unique experience for us and we ended up with a really cool souvenir. We brought our own shirts to dye and now every time we wear them, we can remember what an amazing time we had.
The music continued throughout the day and we could listen while relaxing, dancing, exploring or hanging out in the kid’s area. They were also selling amazing reusable Doylefest cups that came with free refills of lemonade during the day. It was probably the hottest day in September so we appreciated it.
The children’s activities were great. We loved the simplicity of it all – from a big game of x’s and o’s to hoola hoops. It was come and go and my son could have spent the entire time playing with a hoola hoop.
From face painting and fun for kids to food to music to stunning Saskatchewan scenery, we had a magical experience at our first-ever Doylefest and we cannot wait until next year.
