This March Break, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is ready to take you and your family on an exploration of different cultures, right in the heart of Halifax.  Thanks to donor generosity, you can enjoy a spectacular week of exploration and entertainment with family-friendly activities, food workshops, guided visits, and exhibitions—all without spending a dime! From March 8th-16th, you can explore the museum for FREE!

Museum of Immigration March Break (Family Fun Halifax)

To add more fun to March Break, the museum will be hosting cultural food workshops Monday to Friday. Inspired by the Museum’s new upcoming exhibition eat make share: a taste of immigration opening on May 10, 2025, these engaging workshops offer a fun and interactive way for families to explore new cuisines and cultures.

Food Workshops

Learn about new recipes from Mi’kma’ki, Philippines, Italy, the Caribbean, and other cultures. Not only will you learn about the food and culture, but you will be able to take home samples or a copy of the recipe learned that day. Cooking is a great sensory experience for kids of all ages and there are many benefits to cooking as a family. Spending time together in the kitchen is a way to stay connected, experiment with new flavours and have fun making a mess. Get ready to take your taste buds on a world tour.

Permanent and Temporary Exhibitions

Explore the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21’s two permanent exhibitions, The Pier 21 Story and The Canadian Immigration Story. While you’re at it, don’t miss the temporary exhibitions, #HopeAndHealingCanada by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers, or The Wheel of Conscience.

Dig Into Your Family History

Ever wonder about your family’s journey to Canada? The Scotiabank Family History Centre is your chance to dig into your family history with help from one of their expert researchers and uncover the stories of your ancestors.

Additional Fun

With guided tours available every hour, a new scavenger hunt with counting, coding and search activities designed to have fun while learning 400+ years of immigration, along with other family-friendly crafts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
