Watch the beautiful town of Mahone Bay come to life with over 250 hand-made, life-size scarecrows. With pumpkin patches, kids activities and more, this is the perfect event to help you celebrate the joys of this magical season.
28 years and still going strong, The Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival is coming soon. Thousands enjoy this yearly fall festival to view the hundreds of Scarecrows through the town, some original and some hot off the workbench. For three weekends each fall the yards and common spaces around Mahone Bay come to life with historical figures, traditional scarecrows, fictional characters and some others that are too difficult to describe.
We are expecting so many visitors this year and Mahone Bay will be ready with many new and refurbished scarecrows. Some you may recognize, like Taylor Swift and Forrest Gump, while others come from pure imagination. Scarecrows will be on display from September 27th through to October 14th. Many local volunteer organizations and shops create magical displays to remember.
This year has a few new events that have us very excited, and this is the second year for the Nova Scotia Fruit Pie Baking Contest and Sale. Boy, try saying that with a mouthful of pie. The festival began in 1996 to keep visitors in Mahone Bay into the fall season. The business women, all artists, started the festival with straw, sheets over a wooden T-frame. Over time, scarecrow construction has evolved to complex wooden frames and magical faces. We invite everyone to come for a stroll and maybe stay for lunch.
