Francofest is an annual festival happening every October in Halifax. Focused on celebrating Francophone diversity, it’s led by a dedicated organizing committee as well as the Conseil Communautaire du Grand-Havre. This year marks the 13th edition! Many sponsors, both local and national, also support Francofest.
Events include the Francophone Book Fair, Trivia et Drag, Francofoot, Walk in Shubie, and so much more! A full list of events is available here. Events are open to all ages, and programming is offered in French only, however, the trivia questions for Trivia et Drag will be available in English on screens during the night. Francofest doesn’t require a level of French from participants, but participants might not understand everything being communicated, although activities will vary. For example, the mushroom ecotour may be difficult to understand for someone who doesn’t speak French. However, the Gros Partééé can be easily enjoyed no matter your level of French.
From October 30th to November 2nd, visit the Francophone Book Fair, the only French book fair available in our region! It’s a great opportunity for francophone/Acadian/Francophile families, as well as French immersion families, to stock up on books in French. Meet authors, participate in youth activities, watch a live radio show, and much more!
If you’re interested in volunteering for the festival, please contact info@ccgh.ca. Being able to communicate in French is a requirement for volunteering.Â
