The Village of Griesbach invites Edmonton families to remember, reflect, and connect during a special Remembrance Day ceremony hosted by the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. This ceremony will take place on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Patricia Park Memorial to honour the bravery and sacrifices of our country’s military heroes.
The Village of Griesbach holds special ties to the Canadian military being built on the former Canadian Forces Base Edmonton site, also known as Griesbach Barracks. This history is recognized and honoured through special monuments and legacy projects in the community:
- The serene setting of Patricia Lake & Park is home to Edmonton’s first official memorial dedicated to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). This tribute to one of Canada’s most accomplished military regiments was built in recognition of the almost 2,000 soldiers who have given their lives in the service of the regiment over the past 100 years.
- Within Patricia Park, you will also find the Legacy Stone project, which consists of granite stones engraved with the names of former and current PPCLI soldiers, military families, and sponsors.
Attending guests should plan to be at the Patricia Park Memorial at 10:30 am. The official Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at 11:00 am and will include a Veterans parade, laying of wreaths, special remarks, and a moment of silence. Afterwards, guests are invited to stay and connect over a cup of complimentary coffee or hot chocolate. Remembrance Day themed-colouring sheets highlighting important monuments in the community will also be available to kids post-ceremony.
Everyone is invited to this special day of Remembrance in The Village at Griesbach. Wear a poppy as a sign of support and join in the commemoration of all past and present members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have bravely served.
