Whether your aspiring young gymnast has a newly sparked interest in the sport or is wishing to continue on their athletic journey, Ortona Gymnastics has a class to suite your needs this Fall. From beginner to advanced, Ortona Gymnastics is proud to offer a wide range of year round programming for ages 18 months through to adult. Situated out of the Saville Sports Centre on the University of Alberta South Campus, their beautifully equipped gym is the perfect spot to find your balance and to perfect your tumbling.

Ortona Gymnastics is proud to offer both recreational and competitive gymnastics programming. Children of all skill levels and abilities will benefit from age appropriate exercises that help develop gross motor skills, spatial awareness, co-ordination, strength, flexibility and creativity. Most importantly, the Ortona coaches want to help your child find joy in the sport by providing an inclusive and encouraging space where everyone feels comfortable to stretch, jump, run and roll.

Some of the most popular program options offered at Ortona Gymnastics include:

Parent & Tot | 18 months to 36 months

For the tiniest tumblers, Ortona is proud to offer Parent & Tot classes. Come have some fun alongside your tot as they are introduced to basic gymnastics movements and have the opportunity to try a variety of gymnastics apparatuses including bars, rings and balance beams. Each 45 minute class is tailored to the age and abilities of the class,  giving students a positive introduction to the sport and allowing them to build new physical skills while they socialize with peers. At the end of each session, your child will earn a certificate to mark their new achievements!

Leapah’s Learning Garden | 3 to 5 years

Part gymnastics and part pre-school, Leapah’s Learning Garden offers a balanced program filled with early literacy and numeracy skills, arts and crafts activities, physical education and literacy through gymnastics, and more. This is a positive introduction to school for children ages 3 to 5, following Alberta’s Early Learning and Curriculum Framework (FLIGHT). The program focuses on developing each child’s physical, cognitive, emotional, spatial and mental abilities in a safe, inclusive, fun, and encouraging environment.

Kindergym | 3 years to 5 years 11 months

Through Ortona’s WOW KinderGym program, preschoolers can progress through each age-appropriate level, eventually transitioning from the kid-friendly preschool gym onto the full sized equipment in the main gym. In the World of Wonderment, children will discover and learn with dance, games and gymnastics exercises tailored to their growing needs. At Kindergym it is all about having fun and discovering new body movements! As your child progresses through the program, they will earn colorful achievement ribbons.

Artistic Badges & Parkour | 5 years 6 months to 14 years 11 months

Under the Artistic Badges progress program created by Gymnastics Canada, young gymnasts are motivated to earn badges and will receive report card feedback as they finesse their skills. Built on the 3 philosophical pillars of fun, fitness and fundamentals, this progressive 12-badge based program is followed by gymnastic clubs across Canada. The program offers training opportunities for beginner to advanced recreational gymnasts, as well as entry level competitive athletes.

CanJump (Trampoline & Tumbling) | 6 years to 17 years 11 months

The CanJump program allows athletes to further develop their skills in trampoline and tumbling (T&T). Athletes will move through an 8 step levelled program to ensure they are developing the flexibility, strength, courage, technique and landings to move safely to the next set of skills. Co-ed students will increase their fitness and have a lot of fun together as they master each triple set of events in double-mini, trampoline and tumbling, allowing them to rank up to a new class.

Recreational Rhythmic Gymnastics | 5 years to 9 years 11 months

Recreational rhythmic gymnastics classes offer a combination of creativity, musical expression and physical activity for beginners. This fun recreational class offers a no-pressure introduction to ballet, stretching, musicality, floor skills, and rhythmic gymnastics specific apparatus work. Young gymnasts will get to try a variety of apparatuses like balls, ribbons, ropes, hoops, and scarves as they work their way through the colourful levels of the PRISM program.

Active for Life (Teen/Adult) | 11 years to 99 years

Ortona believes you are never too old for gymnastics! Active for Life programs give athletes of all ages and skill levels an introduction to basic movements on a variety of gymnastic apparatuses including floor exercises, bars, rings, vault, pommel horse, and balance beam. Choose from an artistic teen class, or beginner and intermediate/advanced adult classes.
