Do your kids have an insatiable desire to have their favourite stories read out loud? Or maybe you just need an excuse to get out of the house! Throughout the year you’ll find a variety of places around Calgary that do storytime for kids, so you can catch a break. Some places are free, while others have a fee. Keep in mind that some of these storytime events are seasonal or sporadic.
When your voice gives out, here’s where to find a storytime event in Calgary!
Cabela’s and Bass Pro Holiday Storytime with Santa
It’s time for Christmas Tales at Cabela’s and Bass Pro stores! You can join Santa and Mrs. Claus for storytime every Tuesday at 5 pm, from November 19 – December 17, 2024. Registration is required for this event.
Calgary Public Library
Calgary Public Library branches host frequent drop-in Family Storytimes. Everyone is welcome, no registration is required, and these times are geared towards kids ages 2 – 5. Drop in for stories, songs and fingerplays your young family will enjoy. Sometimes you’ll even find Firefighter Storytime!
Heritage Park Storytime
Bring the kids to Heritage Park and visit a variety of locations in the park for story time! Volunteers will read familiar classics and modern favourites and kids will enjoy a take-home craft. Gasoline Alley rates apply. This storytime normally takes place from January to April on Wednesday mornings.
Indigo Kids Storytime
From time to time, IndigoKids departments in Chapters and Indigo stores host events for kids and their parents/caregivers. These events could be anything from storytime to crafts and more. Find out what’s coming up.
Mastermind Toys Storytime
Visit your local Mastermind Toys (always confirm with your location) for free storytime, with giveaways, on most Thursday afternoons at 4 pm. Kids of all ages and their caregivers are invited!
YouthLink Calgary Police Story Hour
A Calgary Police Service uniformed officer will read a story during a monthly Police Story Hour at the YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre. There will also be a craft that matches the theme of the book to do at the Centre or to take home. This program is best suited for ages 8 and under and admission is by donation. Make sure to register for your spot.
