Bowness Park, always one of our favourite parks for family fun, has added an interesting new option to get you outside and active this winter: rent an ice bike!
Calgary is the first city in Canada to offer ice bikes, traditional bikes mounted on a sled-like platform. They are available to rent from the Bowness Park Skate Shop, to be used on the lagoon. You can pedal and steer around the ice as you would a bike, allowing you to be on the ice with greater stability if you aren’t a strong skater. These bikes are available in child and adult sizes and are sanitized between each use. Helmets are highly recommended for everyone and mandatory for those under 18.
The ice bikes are only for use on the lagoon but Bowness also has an ice trail around the park, if you really want to explore.
