How is your summer going? We hope there are some fun and memorable moments amid work, chores, and constant cooking! There are lots of fun family August events in Calgary, so keep reading, visit some of our great Calgary attractions and the local pools and parks, and call it a summer success. The Taste of Calgary is back from August 1 – 5, 2024, so make a plan to head out to try something delicious!
The City of Calgary has a variety of FREE programs throughout August, including their popular Park n’Play and Stay n’Play programs. See if they are in a park near you. Don’t forget to check out Birding Breaks or Wetland Wonders, too.
Need to cool off in the heat? The Olympic Oval has brought back summer public skating on select Wednesdays and Saturdays. Grab your helmet and skates and stay cool! (You can find other ways to beat the heat here.)
All Sport One Day is coming back on August 17, 2024, so kids can have a chance to try a new sport for FREE. But you need to register and this is a popular event, so take note of the August 8, 2024, registration date.
Get out of the city with Alberta Open Farm Days. From August 17 – 18, 2024, farmers and ranchers invite their urban and rural neighbours to stop for a visit to share stories, see demonstrations, and learn more about the farmers who grow their food.
Make the most of summer nights with outdoor movies this August! We’re trying to find all the family-friendly outdoor movie experiences and we’ll post them in our guide. (And, yes, some will be more teen-friendly than kid-friendly.)
Tis the season for summer festivals and fairs! See all festivals on our site here. You can leave the city for classic country fair fun with the Priddis and Millarville Country Fair from August 17 – 18, 2024.
On select nights from August 15 – 24, 2024, it’s time for the explosive Globalfest, with its amazing fireworks and cultural opportunities. Enjoy food vendors, cultural performances, and of course, the fireworks. Taking place over 5 nights, the entertainment will be outstanding every time.
Don’t forget The Military Museums Summer Skirmish. Watch 2000 years of warfare come to life in a weekend of scripted battle re-enactments and demonstrations on August 17 – 18, 2024.
Finally, don your robes and head to the Strathmore Medieval Faire on August 23 – 25, 2024, and end your summer with a little jousting or tales from a jester.
